On the other hand, what if and it's happening now, the Costa Rica government makes the mixed refuge law happen, then doesn't issue building permits in Playa Grande?

What will those existing properties be worth? Smart would-be investors would buy now, because when the new law is passed those existing home will double in value within five years.

Take a look at property values in the US and Canada where building has been stopped because of environmental issues. Existing property vales go through the roof.

Dear Becky Lam:
Regarding your article about Playa Grande dated april 9, 2008 the reality is as follows:
The government DOES NOT want to buy our properties , it has publicly stated in various occasions that it DOES NOT have the money.
The properties at stake are not originally part of the park but were illegally included in 2005 through a manipulation by the former minister of environment (MINAE) Carlos Manuel Rodriguez , he was awarded a prize of $150.000 by this NGO for starting the expropriations and given a job as a high executive among their group after he left office.
The community of Playa Grande is VERY MUCH involved and concerned about protecting the turtles , so much so that we promoted and complied to a zoning plan created by the Municipality of Santa Cruz , that was later brought down by The Leatherback Trust in sala cuarta , through this same kind of misinformation .
This NGO ( The Leatherback Trust ) is currently being investigated in Parliament ( Asamblea Legislativa) by the Comision Para el Control del Ingreso y el Gasto Publico for corruption.
This is a very long story and complicated story . These groups have access to enormous amounts of money and are mainly using these funds to try to get our very valuable properties that , by the way, are far from where the turtles nest. They lie about this too saying that the turtles nest IN our properties. The truth is there is a forest barrier between our properties and the beach, planted buy us many years ago
I have all the documentation to back this and would gladly share it with you. You will be shocked .
Sincerely,
Ana Facio
